Almost there...

Well, it is been weeks since I began this project and I am almost there...I signed up for a beginners quilt class which was supposed to be held 7/5 and 7/6. I was super excited to learn from professionals, the ins and outs of quilting. Unfortunately, on Thursday before the first class was to be held, I received a phone call telling me that the class had been canceled due to lack of interest. I was soooo disappointed. At the urgence of my good friend Melissa Lunden, I called the shop owner back and asked her if I could schedule a private lesson and explained that I had begun my first quilt, but I had no idea what to do once the quilt top was finished. To my delight, the shop owner, Gretchen, told me that there would be a UFO (unfinished objects) class held on 7/6, for five hours, and they had space for me. Yay! She told me it would be easy enough for the instructor, who would have also been the instructor for the beginning quilt class, to show me the ropes. So, I arrived, eager to finish my simple quilt and be on my way. Well, once I arrived and started seeing what others were creating, I was inspired and decided to add borders to my quilt...something I had not considered before. So, after 5 hours, I learned more about quilting, added the borders to my quilt, sandwiched it together, and quilted all but one line. Now, it is ready for the binding....but that will have to wait until the next UFO class in a few weeks. The silver lining here...while I didn't get to take the full on beginners quilting class, I did get to participate in lessons from the quilting instructor in a much more intimate setting (4 people) and probably learned as much in 1 day as I would have in 2 with a larger class!
